A months-old Facebook post has cost the Nebraska football stadium announcer his job one day after his hiring was announced.
Jon Schuetz said Tuesday that a university official told him he was let go because of a Facebook post critical of the firing of football coach Bo Pelini last November. Schuetz said he has deleted the post and declined to comment on what it said.
"They were correct to do it," Schuetz said of his firing. "I own it. It should be a lesson to everybody: Be very careful what you say on social media."
The university has named Lane Grindle the Memorial Stadium announcer starting with Saturday's game against BYU.
UCLA star suspended
UCLA suspended cornerback Ishmael Adams indefinitely following his arrest last weekend on suspicion of felony robbery.
Coach Jim Mora announced the suspension after practice on campus for the 13th-ranked Bruins, who open their season Saturday against Virginia.
The redshirt junior was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly taking a phone from an Uber driver. His bail was set at $100,000.
Flood expects to coach
Rutgers coach Kyle Flood says he expects to be on the sideline leading his team in its season opener Saturday against Norfolk State despite an investigation into whether he improperly communicated with a faculty member about the academic status of a player. Flood could be in violation of NCAA rules regarding extra benefits and also university rules by communicating with faculty member about course work.
Harbaugh mum on QB
Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has not publicly announced a starting quarterback for Thursday's game at Utah. It will be either graduate transfer Jake Rudock or junior Shane Morris.
"I feel like I want both of them to prepare like they're going to be the starter," Harbaugh said.
Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said Monday that the Utes are expecting Rudock to be the starter.
