Ohio State advances to play the Gophers
Justin DaSilva’s second goal of the season, at 14 minutes, 13 seconds of the opening period, proved to be the winner as Ohio State edged Penn State 3-1 on Thursday in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
The Buckeyes (15-18-3) will play the Gophers at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the first semifinal.
“No. 1, we’re going to have to play our best game of the year,” Buckeyes coach Steve Rohlik said when asked if his team could upset Minnesota again. “Certainly we’re playing the best team in the league. They came down to stretch time and they won the league and they deserve that. … They’re very skilled from the goaltending on out, and they’ve got some pretty special players there. ”
Against Penn State, Nick Schilkey gave Ohio State a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the game. David Gust got the Buckeyes’ third goal with a minute left in the second period. Max Gardiner, the former Gopher, scored midway through the second for Penn State (18-16-4).
Michigan 5, Wisconsin 1: Zach Hyman scored two of the first three goals and also had an assist to lead the Wolverines (21-14) over the Badgers (4-26-5).
