The Oh, You Turkey! coloring contest was launched in 1978 as a way of keeping kids out of Mom and Dad's hair as they prepared the family's Thanksgiving feast. Since then, it has become a holiday tradition, with the people who colored that first turkey now watching as their children — or even grandchildren — take on the project. This year's version was created by Minneapolis cartoonist and illustrator Rosemary Valero-O'Connell, who relates to all the young artists who are sharpening their colored pencils and crayons — to say nothing of their creativity — as they decorate her design. She started drawing as a youngster and has never quit. An interview with her is on page E5.
