Jenter (Meier) Mary Whitaker Jenter, longtime Colorado resident, passed away on December 26, 2002 at her home in Estes, Park, CO. Mary was born in Mpls, MN on March 13, 1924. She attended school in Mpls & received her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota in 1945. After college, she served as a stewardess for Pan American Airlines & later as a high school teacher in several MN communities. While taking classes for her master's degree at Colorado University, Mary met & married King Whitaker, a Colorado native. They established a home in Fort Collins and later Loveland, a distinctive women's clothing store. After King's unexpected death in 1961, Mary remained in Estes Park to raise her young son & manage her business. She retired in 1982 & moved to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In 1983, she married Carl Jenter, a cherished companion. They enjoyed 11 years of Island life together. After Carl's death, Mary returned to Estes Park. Mary had a distinct love of travel, different cultures, & books. She extended her love of literature to writing, & was a founding member of a writing group in Estes Park. She will be remembered for her kindness, the many causes she supported, & the loyal friendships she developed & maintained throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by all; her son John Whitaker of Boulder; members of the Meier Family of MN; members of the Whitaker/Wheeler Family of California; members of the Jenter Family; her beloved friend of many years, Charmayne Gooch of Estes Park; the dear friends in writing group; & countless friends throughout the United States. She was preceded in death by her parents, nephew Steve, husband King Whitaker in 1961, & second husband, Carl Jenter in 1994. A memorial service will be held at St. Batholomew's Episcopal Church in Estes Park on Saturday Jan. 4, 2003 at 10:00 AM.
