Skaalen Kalmer, retired Trimont Banker, age 87. Kal died of Alzherimer's Dec. 22, 2002. His funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, Dec. 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd. Born Dec. 15, 1915 to Knute & Christine Skaalen of Boyd, Kalmer Norman Skaalen married Rosadelle Quenemoen of Montevideo Aug. 24, 1941. They ran the Red & White Grocery in Boyd until 1959, when they moved to Trimont. He worked for and later bought and became president of the Triumph State Bank. Civil roles including serving as town clerk and fireman in Boyd, church treasurer and commercial club president in Trimont. He played and umpired baseball and softball games into his sixties. After selling the bank in 1981, he and Rose spent retirement in Trimont, at Lake Miltona and finally in Minnetonka. He spent his last year at the Wellstead assisting living center in Rogers. Preceded in death by his wife Rose in 1997; sisters, Gena, Ellen & Josephine; and brothers, Dolven and Morris. Survived by one brother, Leonard (Rachel), Eden Prairie; three children, Jon, St. Paul; Janet (Hal) Gensler, Zimmerman; and Mary (Douglas) Moen, Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Justin & Taylor Moen; other relatives.
