Lillestol Basil Philip, age 78, of Mpls., passed away Dec. 20 at Hennepin County Medical Center. He was born Dec. 17, 1923 at rural Barney, ND. He graduated high school from Wyndmere, ND in 1942. He attended his first year of college at Duluth State Teachers College in Duluth, MN. Then he attended the University of Minnesota. In 1950 he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to attend the Paris Conservatory in Paris, France. While there his studies were primarily the harpsichord and music history. He placed among the winners in music history. All of his exams were given in French, which he spoke fluently. Later he received a second scholarship from the Paris Conservatory, so he stayed in France to study an extra year. He received his master's degree of arts from the University of Minnesota in 1957. He was a longtime member of the Minnesota Music Teachers Association. He taught piano part-time at the University of MN, Hamline University and the College of St. Thomas. He later taught for many years piano privately at his Florence Court Apt. in Mpls. His students often placed high in state music contests. He is survived by his mother, Blanche E. Lillestol; sister, Lois C. Price; 4 nephews, Daniel (Patricia) Price, Timothy (Deborah) Price, John (Susan) Price, and Thomas (Maureen) Price; 4 great-nieces, Sarah Price, Mirissa Price, Christina Price, and Michelle Arianna Price; 4 great-nephews, Joseph Price, Peter Price, Michael Price, and Matthew Price. Visitation will take place Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001 from 11:00 to 1:00 PM at the Washburn-McReavy Southeast Chapel, 200 Central Ave SE, Mpls. Funeral service will take place Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001 at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Vertin-Munson-Wahpeton Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND. Burial will take place at Homestead Lutheran Cemetery in Wyndmere, ND. Washburn-McReavy Southeast Chapel 612-379-2368
