Smith Anna Jeanette Smith (nee Dahlstrom), of Monticello. January 8, 1917 to December 10, 2002. Born in McKeesport, PA, Jeanette grew up in Latrobe, PA, graduated from Latrobe High School in 1933, and earned a B.A. cum laude from Seton Hill College, Greensburg, PA, in 1937. She taught general science, mathematics and history in Latrobe public schools until 1940. She married Benjamin H. Smith, Jr., July 13, 1940. Jeanette was an active church member at Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church in northeast Minneapolis 1946 to 1954 and Grace Presbyterian Church in south Minneapolis until 1977 when she joined Community United Methodist Church in Monticello. She was a dedicated member of the National Organization for Women, active in the PTA in several Minneapolis public schools, a Cub Scout den mother, a Girl Scout troop leader and trainer, a church women's circle study leader, a Sunday School teacher, a Presbyterian elder, and a willing volunteer for many causes. She was a loving mother, teacher, friend, and a blessing to all who knew her. Jeanette is survived by her five children, Leon (Jane), Frederick (Beverly), Marie, Richard (Linda) and Daniel (Kathy); grandchildren, Rebecca (Bill Henson), Amanda (Russ Tieszen), Mary (John Pukite), Carrie, Benjamin (Barbie Virkus) and Emily; step-granddaughters, Kate (Tom Gukeisen), Emily Keizer and Amy Keizer; great-grandchildren, Greta Emily smith, Wyatt Benjamin Smith, Madeline Estrella Amelie Pukite and Benjamin Paul Gukeisen. Predeceased by husband, Ben, in May 2002 and grandson, Paul Dirksen Smith in 1995. Memorials preferred to Community United Methodist Church of Monticello, Planned Parenthood, Minnesota NOW, Humane Society of Wright County, or your local food shelf.
