Kay Walter Ostrom, 69, died at home of complications from Alzheimer's, with his family present. He was born in Braham, MN to Kenneth and Barbara Ostrom. He attended St. Louis Park High School in Mpls and graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN, with a degree in Sociology. He earned a master's degree in Correctional Administration from Notre Dame. Kay was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was Director of Marion County Juvenile Court from 1964-1976. In 1978, he became an independent agent for Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States achieving the CLU and ChFC designations until his retirement in 1996. He was a former member of Salem Downtown Rotary and Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Among his many interests were golf and hunting. He is survived by his wife, Greta; son, Kurt of Troutdale; daughter, Ann of Bend; mother, Barbara of Mpls; sister, Fern Ash of Parker, CO; grandchildren, Richard, Kimberly, Kelley and Jacob of Troutdale; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held Nov. 13 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Salem, OR. Private interment at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, OR. In his memory, contributions may be made to OHSU Alzheimer's Research, Willamette Valley Hospice or Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Arr. by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem, OR.
