She enjoyed the loving support of Richard and Beverly Ekholm, Georgia and Craig Sampson, Eleanor Strand, Betty Starwalt, and Joyce Schultz. Lovingly known as ``Sama'' this remarkable woman led a long, creative life working with clay, fabric, paper, yarn, silver, beads, and glass. She was a pioneer in the teaching of handicrafts on television and taught crafts to many in the Minneapolis area. At age 90 she was one of the sixteen winners in the national Crayola Crayon ``Name the New Colors'' contest with her entry ``Purple Mountain's Majesty.'' She was well known for her hand-made crayola greeting cards, and her wonderful beaded necklaces. Even with diminishing memory, she would continue to ask, ``What would you like me to make for you...do you need more boxes?'' Mildred's family wishes to express gratitude to the 6th floor nurses and 4th floor Hospice unit at Methodist Hospital. They also request no flowers, but suggest memorials to the Hospice Unit of Methodist Hospice, or a charity of your choice. Family will welcome friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, November 21 at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Ave S., Edina. (952-924-4100). Private interment Lakewood Cemetery.
