Mary Rebecca Purdy Lake
Lake Mary Rebecca Purdy, age 79, died on Friday, November 15th. She was a graduate of West High School and the University of Minnesota where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. During WWII she served in the US Navy stationed at Ottumwa Iowa Flight School. For many years she taught elementary students in many Minneapolis Public Schools, Bryn Mawr, John Hay, Ericsson, and Bancroft. Her many students were the light of her life. She loved to travel and to spend time at the family island on Big Turtle Lake near Bemidji. Survived by daughter, Prudence; brother, Rockwell Purdy; sister, Prudence McCarthy; nieces and nephews; life-long friend Nancy Anderly. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 21st 4:00 pm at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 1917 Logan Ave S., Mpls. Memorials to the MN Landscape Arboretum, 3675 Arboretum Drive, PO Box 39, Chanhassen, MN 55317 or St. Pauls Book of Remembrance.
