Butler Sheila Ward Butler, 94, of Minnetonka, MN, formerly of Cloquet, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002 at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Minnetonka, MN. Sheila was born on Sept. 17, 1908 to Frank & Nellie Ward in Letcher, SD. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1929 from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN, and later earned a degree in Library Science from the same institution in 1937. She married Dr. John K. Butler in 1938. They were married for 55 years before his death on Feb. 21, 1993. They had five children, one of whom, John Ward Butler predeceased them on Oct. 11, 1962 at the age of 22. She was past president of the Cloquet and St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliaries. She was a member of the Cloquet Country Club, Kitchi Gamma Club, Friday Club, Duluth Women's Club, AAUW, Carlton County Historical Society, and chairperson for Northwest Paper Company Scholarship Committee. Sheila was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. Sheila is survived by her sons, Thomas of Edina, MN, William (Mary) of Plymouth, MN, Kenneth (Mary Sue) of Duluth, MN; her daughter, Sheila (Thomas) Doran of Hopkins, MN; and seven grandchildren, Thomas (Libby) and Kimberly Doran, Sheila (Patrick) Shane, and Rachel, Maggie, Molly and Joseph C. Butler; and her sister, Elizabeth Ward Butler. Visitation Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Funeral Mass at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet, with Rev. Fr. Kenneth Sailstad officiating. Interment will be at Old Calvary Cemetery, Cloquet. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital Foundation.
