Smith, Francis "Smitty" age 85, of Foley, died Monday April 16, 2007 at the Foley Nursing Center. Francis Smith was born April 23, 1921 in Hayfield, MN to David and Irene (Peterson) Smith. He was a WW II Navy Veteran serving on the Tiacondoroga Carrier Ship. He married Geneva Heldstab July 20, 1946 at Cumberland, WI. After the service, he worked as a store manager and sold commercial truck tires for Montgomery Wards until his retirement. He lived in Minnetonka for over 50 years. He liked golfing, hunting, cooking and card playing. He especially enjoyed his family time. He is survived by his wife, Geneva, Foley; son and daughters, Linda Smith & partner, Mary Bahe, Foley; Jay (Marianne) Des Moines, IA; Laurie (Ted) Mohrman, Denver, CO; granddaughter, Lissa (Tyson) Iles, Des Moines, IA; and sister, Dorothy Crawford, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his son, Reid Smith, 1990 and an infant brother. Funeral service 2:00 PM Friday, April 20, 2007 at the Foley Nursing Center Chapel, Foley. The Rev. Doris Weber will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Foley. Friends may call from 1 to 2 PM Friday at the Foley Nursing Center Chapel. Arrangements were made by the Foley Funeral Home.
