Squires, Jeremiah F. "Jerry" Age 92, of Edina, passed away July 7, 2015. Preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Jane D. Squires (March 9, 2015); his parents; son-in-law Terry McCarthy; daughter-in-law Cathy Squires. Jerry was born October 11, 1922 and lived in Waterbury, CT. He lost his father Jeremiah early in life and was raised by his mother, Hannah. Jerry worked from a very young age to help support the family, delivering newspapers, taking orders in a dairy, helping out in the butcher shop. He met his future bride and loving wife Jane Donovan while they were in high school. After the war, Jerry started his career in Hartford, CT area as a tool and die maker, designer then into purchasing; worked for Nielson Tool & Die, Hart Mfg. and Kaman Aircraft. In 1961 became a Purchasing Mgr. for United Aircraft - Farmington, CT worked on the LEM Vehicle mission and high speed train project in Montreal, Canada. In 1969 he accepted a position with Sperry Univac - Defense Division - St. Paul, MN as Director of Purchasing, making computer systems for US Navy and FAA. Became VP of Quality and capped his career as General Manager - Sperry Canada Operations in Ottawa, before retiring in 1987. Jerry loved golf, playing in the Braemar Men's Club - Edina, MN and at Kelley Greens - Fort Myers, FL, all the while searching for the perfect swing! Fulfilling every golfer's dream, Jerry played the three greatest courses in the world - Augusta National, St. Andrews and Pebble Beach. Jerry had a great sense of humor. He loved to laugh, told wonderful stories and supplied his kids with jokes and riddles to last a lifetime. He was compassionate and generous. He stepped up to help friends in distress and worked tirelessly for his church's capital campaign. He was handy, building cabinetry and keeping things running. He was the consummate manager. He was wise, the one people turned to when confronted with life changing decisions. He gave great and sound advice. But most of all, Jerry Squires was a family man. His love and marriage to Jane spanned over 70 years, his devotion enduring to her passing this March. Together they raised seven children and presided over an extended family of 55 and counting. Jerry's lesson to all, and one that each of his offspring has honored, is to stick together and care for each other. Though being an only child he wanted a large family. What a beautiful legacy Jerry and Jane left, 7 children, 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Survived by his children, Judith McCarthy, Jeffrey (Anne) Squires, Jenifer (John) Harris, Jonathan (Mary) Squires, Jane (Mark) Borden, Jeremiah Squires Jr, Janet (Dan) Maertens.
