Gurley Elizabeth J. (Griggs) Gurley, 78, died August 20, 2002 at her son's home in Falmouth, Maine. Bette Gurley was born in Minneapolis July 14, 1924. She was a librarian and an educator with degrees in both Art History and Library Science from the University of Minnesota. In 1947 she married Benjamin M. Gurley and had seven children. After the death of her husband she was employed at MIT where she helped develop the MARC electronic cataloging format for libraries. She worked, too, in the public schools of Concord, MA, directing a variety of library and computer-related activities. Services to be held at First Parish Church, Concord, MA, Sept. 7, 2002.
