Blomberg Karin Josefina, A memorial service for Karin Blomberg, 90, of Colorado Springs, CO, will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 30, 2002, at Grace Church, 9301 Eden Prairie Road, Eden Prairie, MN 55347. Inurnment will be at the Memorial Cemetery in Hinckley, MN. She went home to be with the Lord on August 24, 2002, at the Medalion Retirement Residence in Colorado Springs, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernst in 1976. Karin was born on April 9, 1912, in Sderhamn, Sweden. She married Ernst Blomberg in 1940 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Karin immigrated to the United States with her family in 1952 to Hinckley, MN, and shortly thereafter moved to St. Paul, MN. After teaching in Sweden, she pursued her vocation here with vigor, riding her sons bicycle to school daily to complete her second teaching degree at Macalester College in 1954. Upon graduation, she taught in the Mendota Heights school district through 1957. She taught 5th and 6th grades in the Minneapolis School system at Corcoran, Windom and Kenny Elementary Schools. During this time she obtained a Masters and a PhD degree in Education from the University of Minnesota pursuing studies to create a more handson, interactive science instruction program for her students. Karin was loved by her students for the life she brought to the classroom and they reciprocated in kind. She retired from teaching in 1972 at which time she moved to Pueblo West, CO. In 1979 she moved into the Medalion Retirement Residence in Colorado Springs where she remained until her death. Survivors include a sister, Gullan Wasstorp and husband Holger of Bromma, Sweden; son, Goran of Lansing, MI; daughter, Karin Ahlgren and husband Gary of Bedford, MA; and son, Peter and wife JoAnn of Bloomington, MN; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
