Leonard G. Spanier, age 76, of Brooklyn Park, on August 21, 2002 after a 2-year battle with Mesothelioma (asbestos related lung cancer). His joys included his cherished family, daily coffee with friends, picture framing, speaking his native German, travel both domestic & international, and wintering in Mesa, AZ. He was a telegrapher and agent for Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroads for 41 years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and the Morse Telegraph Club. Len was born in Farming, MN, lived in Roscoe, St. Cloud and Brooklyn Park. Survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Verlett (Roeser) and their 7 children, Connie (Wayne) Aho, Marilyn (John) Posl, Thomas (Barb), Daniel (Holly), Mark (Sandy), Jane (Ricky) Hilbrands, Julie (Mark) Spanier-Lorentzen, and 17 grandchildren. Also survived by siblings, Roman (Rose), Arnold (Isabelle), Oswald (Adella), Dolores Klein, Dorothy (Wally) Zumwalde, Viola (Elmer) Schwinghammer, Orville (Jeanette). Preceded in death by parents, Mathias and Frances; brothers, Gilbert and Robert; grandson, Jack Posl. Reviewal 9 am and Mass of Christian Burial 10 am Saturday, (TODAY) all at Church of St. Gerard, 9600 Regent Ave N., Brooklyn Park.
