Montgomery Eleanor Alden Watts Montgomery of Prospect Park, Mpls died of cancer on August 21st, 2002. She was born December 24th, 1930 in Duluth, MN to Valborg Eleanor Rudd & Mathew Sheldon Watts, Esq. Eleanor graduated from Crookston HS in 1947 and later received a BA from Macalester College in Political Science and Economics. Eleanor was a well read, strong willed individual whose work as a social worker, both official and unofficial, spanned over 40 years. In addition to her early work as an adoption case worker for County Welfare in Duluth, she served as Social Services Coordinator in the Mpls High Rises For Seniors from 1966-80. For the last 19 years she was the Older Adult Coordinator of the JOY group for Luxton Park. She was extremely active in Prospect Park and the Mpls community at large, including: Prospect Park United Methodist Church, Prospect Park East River Road Improvement Association, Martin Luther King Park, Pratt Council, Pratt Community Education Center, Block Nurse, League of Women Voters and countless local political campaigns and candidate races. She is survived by her son, Theodore Montgomery, his wife, Rhonda Kaetzel; and grandsons, Tyler Frederick and Charles Matthew of Corvallis, OR; brother & wife, Sheldon & Susan Watts of Cairo, Egypt; first cousin & wife, William & Olga Coburn of Birmingham, AL; first cousin & wife, Robert Coburn & Martha Means of Seattle, WA. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 PM, Thurs, Aug 29 at Prospect Park UMC, 22 Orlin Ave SE, Mpls (612-378-2380). Potluck supper to follow. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
