Otilija Zalitis Steinbergs
Steinbergs Otilija Zalitis, age 95, of Northfield, MN. She held her family together from Riga, Latvia, through WW II Germany, to a new life started in the 1950's in Northfield. Now that we're grown with children and houses of our own, we appreciate how hard she worked every day of her life to take care of her family. We remember the many meals she lovingly cooked for us and how happy it made her to feed us well. Nobody has ever made better bacon rolls or oven-browned potatoes. Her houseplants and geraniums always grew faster than anyone else's. We still drive by the birch trees she planted around her house on First Street to remind her of her homeland, Latvia. Preceded in death by beloved husband, Auseklis. Survived by children, John and Malda; grandchildren, Audrey, Kurt, Erich, Diane, Doug, David and Debbie; great-grandchildren, Phillip, Lauren, Matthew, Emma, John-Anthony, Kira, Pieter, Camille, Nicholas, Katie, Coleman, Austin, Cassy and Hannah. Private burial service August 24 at Crystal Lake Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Memorials preferred: Office of Resource Development, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, 700 Light Street, Baltimore, MD 21230.
