Hanson, Mildred S., M.D. of Edina passed away March 4th, 2015. Mildred was preceded in death by brothers Ralph Schaffer and Victor Schaffer; and brother-in-law, Roman Meyer. She is survived by her children, Melanie Hanson, William (Patricia) Hanson, Robert Hanson, and Marilee Hanson; grandchildren, Joseph, Mats & Anders; siblings, Doris (Russell) Utgard, Goldie Meyer, Peggy (Mel) Prinz, and Johnny (Jacque) Schaffer; dear friend, Dr. Robert Rusnak; and many other loving family, friends, colleagues & patients. Mildred graduated as valedictorian from Clayton High School (WI) and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin River Falls and University of Minnesota Medical School and completed her residency at Hennepin County General Hospital. She was a dedicated OBGYN physician who had her own private practice for many years. Mildred was a recipient of the prestigious Harold S. Diehl award from the University of Minnesota, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and she was a renowned national speaker. She was very active politically, particularly in the field of women's health. She had a passion for cooking, gardening, Scrabble, travel, skiing, and laughter. A private service will be held on Monday, March 9th, 2015.
