Merchant Robert W., age 70, of Edina. Born on June 8, 1931. Died peacefully on June 6, 2002, at home, surrounded by family, after a battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Winifred Merchant. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 49 years, Donna McDonald Merchant; son, Scott and his wife Cindy; daughter, Laura Merchant Wood of Vashon, WA and her husband Wally; grandchildren, Nicholas, Jennifer, Sam, Sara, Max and Walker; nephews, Jamie and Jeremy McDonald; and many other nieces and nephews; sisters, Marian New (Robert) of Richmond, VA, Barbara Vining (Bill) of Perrysburg, OH and Jeanne Noxon of Houston, TX. Robert graduated from West High School in Minneapolis, in 1950, and attended Hamline University and the University of Minnesota. Robert worked all his life as a sales representative, 22 years in the boot industry, and the last 14 years for Turf Supply Co. His hobbies and interests included hunting and fishing, and traveling with his wife, particularly their many trips to England and Scotland, and the countless trips to his beloved North Shore of Lake Superior. Most recently his biggest interest was photography, developing his own black and white photos and specializing in hand coloring his black and white prints. He was an active member of AA, Scottish Clan Donald, the Saint Andrews Society, the Edina Art Center, and a member of the Christ Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6901 Normandale Road, Edina, on June 24. Time will be announced in a subsequent notice.
