Ferris Nancy Alexandra Fleming Ferris, mother of Alexander Hamilton Crosby (born 1991) and Devon Scott Crosby (born 1993), died in Palatine, Illinois, on January 14, 2003. Alex was born in Duluth on December 14, 1950, the second of four children and the first daughter of John A. and Claire F. Ferris. She graduated from Duluth East High School in 1968, attended Hamline University in St. Paul, and graduated from the University of Minnesota. She worked in both health care and real estate in Minneapolis before moving to Chicago, where she worked for United Airlines until her death. She loved music, the arts, and animals. She was also a passionate advocate for victims of domestic abuse. Alex is survived by her two beloved sons, A.C. and Devon; brother, Scott of Portland, Oregon; sister, Jane LeRoy of Plano, Texas; nephew, Jack LeRoy, and niece, Jessica LeRoy, both of Plano, Texas. She was preceded in death by her brother, Cyrus, and her parents. A memorial service for Alex and her mother, Claire, will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 19, 2003, in the chapel at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Duluth.
