Elias Raymond D. Elias, WWII Veteran, age 81. Born in Virginia, MN on January 7, 1924 to Bohemian immigrant parents, John and Anna. He fought a good fight, in a life well lived and died of "everything" 8/31/05. Preceded death by three brother and five sisters and survived by two siblings. Married 58 loving and colorful years to Gayl. Grateful children Patty, Mary, Paul (Bernie), Cynthia (Bill), Anne (George) Meg (Sean), Theresa, Jane (Kevin) Lisa (Dan); beloved grandchildren Amber, Willow, Mariah, Tyson, Colette, Christina, Mica, Cole, Flint, Aerial, Ray, George, Gayl and Oliver; Great-grandchildren Michael, Jerron, Anthony, Terrell, Zaya and many dear friends and his Band of Brothers in the Paratroopers 11th Airborne Division. Ray served in the US army as a Paratrooper in the South Pacific, awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Medal, but always believed "The true heroes were the guys who didn't make it home." Graduated from the U of M with a Mas- ter's Degree in Education, Guidance counselor for 37 years at Grass Jr. High. He was most proud of being the first president of the Teachers Union Dis. 197. Dad was the truest example of compassion, he was a man of integrity and a dutiful citizen. He was a passionate and resilient Democrat to the core.
