Watschke John Byron, ("George" to his family), age 83, a decorated WWII veteran, passed away peacefully at home on June 20th after a valiant battle with cancer. Byron will be deeply missed by the light of his life, his loving wife of 38 years, Sandra ("Mitz") Watschke; 7 children, James (Loretta) Watschke, Penny DiRocco, Wendy Robbins, John (Leslie) Watschke, Tammy Warner, Heather (Jeff) Lowell and Paul Watschke; 20 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; many other family and friends and Nestle, his constant companion. Byron was a C-46 hump pilot in WWII, serving from 1943-1946 in the China-Burma-India Theatre. Byron lived his life to the fullest and left an indelible impression on everyone he met. His tremendous strength, determination and love for life will always be our inspiration. The family would like to thank Fairview Home Care and Hospice for all their tender care and support. A memorial service celebrating Byron's life will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 200 Nicollet Blvd. E., Burnsville, on Monday, June 23 at 6:30 PM. Private interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Fairview Hospice Fund or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Cremation Society of MN Mpls (612) 825-2435
