Maher Sean Maher, 21, of New Brighton, died in a tragic accident over the weekend. Sean had Down syndrome, and worked hard to achieve his goals of living independently and working in the arts. He was an enthusiastic member of the Interact theater company, which he joined this year. He lived in his own apartment and used public transportation for his daily trips. Sean was a creative writer, whose apartment was always full of works in progress. Sean was fortunate to be "bookended" by his two brothers, whom he adored - Nate, 25, and Max, 17. His life was a testament to the power of love to change people's lives for the better. Sean is survived by his loving and devoted parents, Mary and Mark; his brothers; his grandparents, Marilyn Kapter, John Bernd, John Kapter; and Lydia Maher; his aunts and uncles, Steven and Crystal, Bill, Mary, Eileen and Jim; his cousins, Eddie, Lynn, Cathy and Casey, and Darcy, Danielle and Casey. His grandfather, Paul, preceded Sean in death. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at Miller-Brighton Funeral Home, 706 4th Ave NW, New Brighton. A memorial mass will be held Thursday at 11 AM at St. Joan of Arc, 4537 3rd Ave. S., Minneapolis, followed by a lunch at the church. Memorials preferred to the Interact Center for the Visual and Performing Arts or the Down Syndrome Assoc. of MN.
