Christiansen Ellen Katherine Christiansen, age 87, died peacefully on July 30, 2005. Kay was born in Mpls. on Nov. 23, 1917. She embraced her Swedish heritage and enjoyed sharing it with others throughout her life. On April 20, 1940, she married Allan Peter Christiansen. Their marriage of 65 years was an example to all who knew them of great love and commitment. Kay was known for her warm, welcoming nature and her fun loving spirit. She found pure joy in cooking, golfing, traveling, and creating beautiful needlework. Her family will forever have fond memories of beach times at their home in Florida, and summer lake cabin adventures in Ely. Kay and Allan have been active residents of Friendship Village, Bloomington since 1994 and have valued the many friendships they made there. Kay's family wishes to thank her physician, Dr. Rosalie Siy, and the staff at Friendship Village for their loving care throughout the final years of her journey with Alzheimer's. Kay's dignified patience, gentle spirit, and thankful heart is inspiring. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Carl Nelson, and her brother, Edward Nelson, brother-in-law, Sydney Mohn. Kay is survived by her husband, Allan; her two sons, Thomas (Susan), and Steven (Julie); five grandchildren, Eric, Tara (Jason) Gallagher, Tammy (Eric) Uresti, Jenny (Ryan) Miller, and Aaron; her sisters, Vicki Mohn of Lakeville, Ellie Nelson (Ken Ludlow) of Bend, Oregon; sister-in-law, Earline Nelson; great- grandchildren, Grace and Ben Gallagher, Katie and Noah Uresti; nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at Friendship Village on Friday, August 19 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Research Center, 640 Jackson St., St. Paul, MN 55101 or The Friendship Village Foundation/ Scholarship Fund for Health Care Staff, 8100 Highwood Dr., Blmgtn, MN 55438.
