Mabel Reeves Young
Mabel Reeves Young, age 91, died on May 19, 2002. Preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Edward G. Young; her parents, Gardner and Annie Reeves; and her brother, Gregory Reeves. She is survived by her children, Greg (Donna) of Shorewood, MN, Ed (Nancy) of Madison, WI, Sally of Madison, WI, and Jim (Kathy) of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Sally of Seattle, Ginnie (Janie Lowe), Portland, OR, Todd (Kate), Madison, WI, Tim (Bea), Thousand Oaks, CA, Mike (Angie), Seattle, Toni (Chhem), Rota, Spain, Andrew, and Ian, Minneapolis; 3 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mabel was a longtime resident of the Minneapolis area and a lifelong member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She attended Minneapolis West High School, Northrup Collegiate School, graduated from Ward Belmont, Nashville, TN, and earned a BBA from the University of Minnesota and was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Mabel was a tireless worker to improve her community, serving in various capacities with community organizations. Her efforts were focused on involvement with her family, her church and new ideas for addressing problems in the community. She was quick to embrace innovative approaches to life's problems such as housing for senior citizens & public transportation. After she and Ed retired they took up traveling with an Airstream trailer and were among the organizers of a park for Airstream trailers near Clear Lake, MN. She lived at the Presbyterian Home on Lake Minnetonka and her family appreciated the care she received from the staff and her special friend, Barbara Meyer. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers and may be sent to St. Paul's Episcopal Church 1917 Logan Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55403; Presbyterian Home on Lake Minnetonka, 4527 Shoreline Drive, Spring Park, MN 55483; or the donor's choice. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 28 at 11 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. There will be a visitation 1 hour before the service. Interment Lakewood Cemetery.
