Greehling Melvin August Henry "Mel," age 82, of Rockford, died of natural causes July 12, 2005. He was born in Greenwood Township, Hennepin County on July 5, 1923. Honorably served in the U.S. Army during WWII. following his discharge from military service, Melvin took over his family farm. Through the years, he did custom corn picking and silo filling. He also operated a saw mill on his farm until 1959. In addition to being a farmer, Mel was a former welder and electrician. Survived by three loving daughters, Beth (Tim) Doboszenski of Loretto, Colette (Kerby) Desens of Big Lake and Colleen (Tony) Geftos of Dundee, Michigan; grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda and Amber, Brock and Dustin; other relatives, including his former wife, Audrey Bigalke. Preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Louise (Wetterau) Greehling and by a brother, Walter. Mel enjoyed gardening, woodworking and loved being a grandpa! Funeral service 11am Monday, Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield. Friends may call TODAY 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
