Sayles William "Bill" Wellford Sayles, Jr., age 79, of St. Paul, May 7, 1926 to July 7, 2005, Son of William Wellford Sayles, Sr. and Elenora Jackson Sayles. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and first African American auto salesman in St. Paul at Midway Ford. He retired from Wheelabrator in 1991. Through his work as the children and youth director and Commander of American Legion Post 425, he worked closely with Maxfield Elementary School promoting civic pride and academic excellence. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Shirley Wheeler and Anita Harroway; and a brother, Richard "Dickie" Sayles. He is survived by by sisters, Elenora Sayles, Marcella Marzitelli, Ayesha Ecmaan-Sayles, and Binta Colley; and loving daughters, Talayah (Robert) Bayne, Renee Sayles, Sharon (Steven)Sayles Belton, Sheila (Steven) Arrington, Sandra (Bruce A.) Henry; and a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends will celebrate his life Wednesday, July 13th, 12:00 Noon, at St. Peter's AME Church, 401 E. 41st, Minneapolis, with visitation at 11 a.m. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
