Walrod, Rev. Robert L. Robert passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family January 11, 2015 at the age 83. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gwendolyn; 3 children, Robert Walrod Jr. (Janice), Kathryn Lindberg (James) & David Walrod (Taree) as well as 15 grandchildren & 16 great-grandchildren. He grew up in Madelia, MN and was preceded in death by 2 children, Gregory Walrod & Angela Brama; parents Robert & Ruth Walrod and 2 sisters. Robert served in Korea with the Marines in 1951 & 1952. After coming home he attended Mankato State College & University of MN. After a career as a financial adviser with Northwestern Mutual Milwaukee, Robert felt a "call" to serve his God as a Pastor in the Lutheran Church. He attended Northwestern Seminary & was ordained in June of 1964. He served five parishes as a senior Pastor, Bethany and Hillman, Onamia; Incarnation Lutheran, Shoreview; First Evangelical Lutheran, Litchfield; Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran, St. Paul. Upon the request of Bishop Hammerberg, Robert took a leave of absence from serving a church to help organize the "Worker Priest" program. A program that counseled Pastors struggling with issues in the parish. They were helped to find a job in order to support themselves while receiving counseling. Robert returned to the financial field & worked with Merrill Lynch, St. Paul as a financial advisor during these 2 years. He then returned to his real love; serving the church as a Pastor. Visitation 4-7 PM Sunday at ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 1401 Arcade St. (Hwy 61), St. Paul. Funeral 11 AM Monday at GLEN CARY LUTHERAN CHURCH 15531 Central Ave NE (Hwy 65), Ham Lake. Visitation also at church 1 hour prior to the service from 10-11 AM. Interment Fairview Cemetery, Stillwater. Memorials preferred.
