Shaver Virginia Thomas Shaver died peacefully on April 1, 2003 after tending her garden and her family for 91 years in Wayzata. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Craig Shaver, Sr. and her eldest son, Craig Shaver Jr. Jinny is survived by her daughter, Ann Hammer, of St. Davids, PA and sons, Bayard of Minneapolis, Stuart Morley of Wayzata, and Jim of Marine on St. Croix. Her marvelous spirit will also be missed by her 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, dozens of nieces and nephews and many friends. Five decades before Title 9, Jinny played 3rd base for the Crystal Bay boys' baseball team. She graduated from Wayzata High School in 1929 and worked for six years before beginning to raise her family. Besides her garden and her family, Jinny loved golf, bridge, reading, and most of all her friends. Jinny is the last of fifteen brothers and sisters of her generation from two families, the Shavers and the Thomases. Their local histories date back over 150 years in and around Wayzata. Though many from the following generations are now widely dispersed, their roots will always remain firmly planted on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, thanks to the loving care of Jinny. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 7, at 11AM in Shaver Park in Wayzata. Memorials should be sent to Interfaith Outreach, 110 Grand Avenue South, Wayzata, MN 55391 or to the donor's choice. The world would truly be a better place if each of us had just a little of Jinny's heart.
