Japs Archie B., chemical engineer and administrator, age 89, of St. Louis Park, passed away on May 28 after a short illness. Preceded in death by parents, Albert & Mathilda (Roth) Japs; sister, Bernice Skocpol; wife of 52 years, Doris Burcaw and wife of 11 years, Edith (Voss Larson). Survived by sons, David E. (friend Norma Sweet), San Bernadino, and Robert B. (Janice), Yucaipa, CA; granddaughters, Terri and Tammy; brother, Clifford C. (Mary), White Bear Lake; 4 nephews, 1 niece, and stepchildren, Wayne Larson, Shakopee, Don Larson, Denver and Ginnie Larson Tabor of Alaska, and families. Archie was raised in Hopkins, graduated from the U of M in Chem. Eng. at age 19 and worked 43 years at the Goodrich Rubber Co. in Akron and later in Rialto, CA. He developed many firsts in vinyl products and solid propellents, was awarded seven U.S. patents and was active in several technical societies. In Rialto, he served as councilman (1959-62) and mayor (1962-64). Memorial service Monday, June 2, 11 AM at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 715 Mtka Mills Rd., Hopkins.
