Arvilla Nelson

Nelson Arvilla ("Arv") Nelson, age 90, died at Augustana Chapel View Care Center in Hopkins, on May 5, 2003. Born Beatrice Arvilla Opdahl on Nov. 2, 1912 in Duluth, MN. Preceded in death by Roy, her loving husband of 51 years; daughter, Lynn Jorgensen; sisters, Frances Batzler, Deborah Gniffke, Ruby Kvidt; brothers, Roald and Stanley Opdahl, and grandson, Bret Gilyard. Survived by sister, Bernyce Carlson; daughter, Cheryll Nelson; grandsons, Kurt Jorgensen, Brad (Jessica) Jorgensen, Burl Gilyard (Nicole Cina); many nieces and nephews. Arvilla graduated from the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing. Arvilla had a flair for style, and fashioned clothes for herself and her children. She was a voracious reader and devoured mysteries. Once, she shot a hole-in-one on the golf course. Arv often said, "If you can read, you can do anything." Roy and Arvilla's song was "Spanish Eyes." Memorials preferred to the American Red Cross, Arv's favorite charity. Interment Crystal Lake Cemetery.
