Stewart Douglas H., 85, Thief River Falls, MN died Saturday, May 3, 2003. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 7 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Tuesday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home (218-681-4331). Douglas Hamilton Stewart was born on June 14, 1917 in Gilby, North Dakota. He graduated from the university of North Dakota in 1940 with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for the Great Northern RR, the US Soil Conservation Service, and designed and built munitions plants with the Kaiser Engineers during WWII. In 1952, he started his own consulting engineering firm, DH Stewart & Associates, with offices in Thief River Falls and Grand Rapids, MN. In 1960, the name of the firm was changed to Stewart & Walker, Inc. with offices in Thief River Falls and Bemidji. Doug retired in 1979. He and his wife, Lillian "Susie," spent winters at their home in Naples, FL and the balance of the year in Thief River Falls. Doug had served as President of the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers and as a Director of the National Society of Professional Engineers. He is survived by his wife; 3 sons; 5 grandchildren; & 2 great-grandchildren.
