Dees Harold Floyd Dees, born September 15, 1934, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with a prolonged illness on Sunday, April 20, 2003. A native of Pensacola, FL, Harold was a resident of Burnsville, MN for over 30 years. Harold served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Harold received his Bachelor of Arts (BA) and his Juris Doctorate (JD) from Howard University in Washington, DC. He began his legal career as a civil rights attorney in Lexington, KY. Later he was an attorney for the Department of Agriculture and for the Bureau of Hearings and Appeals for the Social Security Administration. Harold retired in 1989 as an Administrative Law Judge. He served as Legal Advisor to the black veterans of St. Paul, and on numerous boards and community organizations including Caring and Sharing Hands, the Zoning Board of Burnsville, and the Legal Redress Committee of the Mpls Branch of the NAACP. However, his passion was for Habitat for Humanity. Harold was an active member of Mary, Mother of the Church. Harold is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Patricia; sister, Lily Townsend (Ronald) of Pensacola, FL; sons, Learned (Amina), Michael (Andriel); and daughter, Almena (Rodney); grandchildren, Lauren, Marcellus, and Alyse; and a host of relatives and friends. Prayer service and viewing will be Sunday, April 27, from 6-9 PM at Mary, Mother of the Church, 3333 Cliff Rd. S., Burnsville, MN 55337-3397. Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, April 28, 2003 at 11 AM at Mary, Mother of the Church, with additional visitation one hour prior to the service.
