Buetow Harry Buetow, 81, of Silver Bay, MN, died Friday, April 11, 2003 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born in St. Paul on Sept. 3, 1921, to Harry and Elsie Buetow. Harry grew up in the Como Lake neighborhood, graduated from Washington High School in 1939 and the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1945. Harry moved his young family to the newly developed town of Silver Bay in 1955 where he practiced dentistry until his retirement in 1990. Harry had a 67-year relationship with the St. Paul YMCA and its Camp Widjiwagan. He met his bride-to-be, Evelyn Storberg, there in 1939 and his grandchildren continue the legacy to this day. Harry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved the out-of-doors and all things German. He personified the saying of "A life well-lived." Surviving are his wife and paddling partner of 59 years, Evelyn; children, Christy of Grand Marais, MN, David of Charlotte, NC and Eric of Fairbanks, AK; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be 1 hour prior to the 1 pm service on Tuesday, April 15, at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul YMCA Camp Widjiwagan.
