Schmit Peter D. Schmit, age 40, of Mpls and recently Los Angeles, tragically died on April 2nd. Overcome by depression he took his own life on a California beach he loved where he sought peace. Preceded in death by grandparents, A.T. Kranz, Exilda & August Schmit. Survived by his fiancee, Lori Klein; parents, David & Mary; brothers, Stephen (Sue) and John; special cousin, Nancy (Mike) Everson; nephews, Michael, Sean, Patrick and Connor; grandmother, Frances McAlpin; special aunts, Gretchen Irvine and Darlene Hapka; many other relatives and legions of friends in this state, California and around the world. Peter attended Annunciation School, Holy Angels, Southwest High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of St Thomas. Peter's extraordinary compassion, kindness, creative talents and humor touched untold numbers of people through his world-wide travels, the unique City of Lakes International Hostel, which he founded and operated for 10 years, and through Schmit Towing, his brother's company, with whom he was long associated. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, 11 am, Church of the Annunication, 54th and Harriet Ave. Interment Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation Thursday, 4-8 pm, Gill Brothers Southwest Funeral Chapel, 5801 Lyndale Ave S and one hour prior to Mass at church. Prayer service Thursday, 7 pm.
