Gibas Andrew C. Gibas, of Circle Pines, died March 18, 2002, of heart failure. Born Sept. 26, 1913; raised in Walsenburg, Colo.; graduate of Northwestern University, with graduate studies at the University of Chicago; a conscientious objector in WWII, during which he served as scientist on groundbreaking starvation experiment; by vocation a research chemist, he also pioneered and edited, with his wife Grace, the Circle Pines Circulating Pines newspaper for more than 40 years; devoted public servant with Circle Pines City Council and Utilities Commission. Preceeded in death by his wife and partner of 61 years, Grace, and son, Murray. Survived by his children, Allen (Patricia Jones), Rebecca Gepner (Greg), Barbara Gibas; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Gibas; & grandchildren, Joshua and Rachel Gepner; Michael, Susan and Julia Gibas-Jones. A memorial service is planned at Minneapolis Friends Meeting, 4401 York Ave. S., Minneapolis, on Sunday, March 24 at 2 pm. Memorials to Minneapolis Friends Meeting (612) 926-6159.
