Womelsdorf (Artig) Catherine Womelsdorf died on May 20, 2004, surrounded by her loving children. She was born Catherine Anne McNally on November 27, 1920, daughter of Catherine and Judge Carlton McNally. She served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II, performing classified work for Naval Communications. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from St. Catherine's College in St. Paul and a Master's Degree from the University of Chicago, later working as a writer and editor, and in executive positions for Graco Company and Control Data Corp. She married artist James Lonsdale Artig and had five children. Later in life she married George "Heintz" Womelsdorf and shared with him her love of golf, tennis, gardening and worldwide travel. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Carlton and Myles; her sister, Maureen and her husbands, James Artig and Heintz Womelsdorf. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Hutzel, Lebanon, Ohio; sons, James Lonsdale Artig, Junior (wife Jeanne) of Circle Pines, Rory Jon Artig (wife Mary) of Stillwater, Christopher Francis Artig of Summit Park, Utah; daughters, Kit Mariah Artig of Bolinas, California, and Gretchen "Jenny" Artig-Swomley (husband Dale Swomley) of Gem Lake. Her grandchildren brought her great joy and include James Lonsdale Artig III, John Myles Artig, Joanna Leslie Artig, Abigail Gibson Artig, Jeanna Lynn Artig and Rachel Catherine Artig. Visitation at WILLWERSCHEID FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul, 651-228-1006, Wednesday, June 2 beginning at 1 PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 3 PM. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Clement's Episcopal Church in St. Paul.
