Helen Mae Caler
Caler Helen Mae, age 100, died peacefully in her sleep at North Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Center, MN, of heart failure on Saturday morning, Feb. 16, 2002 at 7:40 am after a physical decline of several months duration. Helen had resided in Bloomington, MN, with her eldest granddaughter, Karen (Dean) Luedtke, for the past six years. Helen Mae Canfield, the eldest daughter of Oliver Canfield and Abigail (Davis), was born Nov. 2, 1901 in Bricelyn, Faribault County, MN, where her father was an early town constable. She grew up in Chicago, Joliet and Coal City, IL, and Gary, Miller and Michigan City, IN, graduating from Michigan City's Elston High School in 1921. On January 11, 1922, she was married in Adair County, IA, to Frank Porter Caler of Beaver Falls, PA. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Porter Caler; her younger sister, Lolita Evaretta Shipley and 2 of her children, Janet Jeffrey of LaPorte, IN and Marvin Caler of Mishawaka, IN. She is survived by 2 children, Marjorie Mae (Vance) Albert of Culver, IN and Frank Robert (Edna) Caler of San Antonio, TX; and 10 grandchildren. Memorials preferred to organization of choice. Funeral service will be held TODAY, Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7 pm, with visitation from 5-7 pm at: WERNESS BROTHERS 3500 West 50th Street 612-927-8641
