Richard Mahlon Ovestrud
Ovestrud Richard Mahlon Ovestrud, Jr., age 52, of Dublin, OH, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 at his home. He was an attorney with Allmerica Financial Co., Cleveland, OH, and formerly a managing attorney with Progressive Insurance. Previously, Richard was managing attorney with Hyatt Legal Services in Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Julia, and daughter, Ilona Ovestrud, all of Dublin; mother, Jane Ovestrud (now deceased); sister, Dana Ovestrud (Justin) Doheny, Wayne, NJ; nephews and niece, Justin III, Christopher, Timothy Doheny, all of Wayne, NJ, Janine Ovestrud LaRocque, Colonia, NJ and Donald Ovestrud, Little Egg Harbor, NJ; one great niece and great nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Mahlon Ovestrud, Sr. and brother, Donald Robert Ovestrud. Richard was a 1973 graduate of Colgate University and 1977 graduate of Creighton University School of Law. He also graduated from Naval Justice School, 1978. He was a captain in the U.S. Marines and was active in the Marine Reserves. He was a defense counsel/prosecutor for the Judge Advocate division of the U.S. Marine Corps 1977-1983 and a member of the J.A.G. Corps. He was a member of the Ohio State, Nebraska and Alaska Bar Associations; was admitted to practice before the Ohio Supreme Court and a well-respected attorney among his peers. He was a 15-year member of Sawmill Athletic Club and an avid daily runner. Private services were held 12/19/02 in Columbus, OH. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Mpls at 1 pm Friday, Feb. 14, 2003. Friends and family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus, c/o Dana Ovestrud Doheny, 15 Borzotta Blvd., Wayne, NJ 07470-2503 for the benefit of his nephew, Christopher's, lung transplant. Arrangements by Washburn-McReavy Davies Chapel and Schoedinger Northwest Chapel in Columbus, Ohio.
