North Margaret Sampson North August 18, 1916 - January 27, 2003 We love our Mom, who has now gone to join her beloved husband, Joe. She was truly a remarkable woman who always remained steadfast in her conviction that she could make the world a better place by devoting herself to helping others, one person at a time. Along the way, she enriched the lives of all those she touched. Anybody who met her never will forget her. She was always willing to give of her time whenever help was needed. Her volunteer experiences ranged from helping to build health facilities in Africa to building latrines in Central America. She even received a volunteer service award from the nursing home where she spent the last years of her life. She treasured traveling and especially meeting people along the way. Some of her many adventures included kayaking with orcas in the Queen Charlotte Islands at age 73 and helping to compile research data in the Galapagos Islands. She loved her family - Bobbie & Joe, David & Carol, Anne & Dan, Joseph, Jr. & Diana, Christopher & Carol - and found special joy in her grandchildren, Brian, Stephen, Evan, Kristin, April, Christopher, Joseph, Katherine, Madeline, and Aidan. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Global Citizens Network, a nonprofit volunteer organization whose goals so much parallel those to which our Mom aspired (GCN, 130 N. Howell St., St. Paul, MN 55104). There will be a private family memorial service at Jones Harrison, followed by a celebration of life this summer in Ithaca, New York, her birthplace.
