Waters, Matthew J. died peacefully, age 90, surrounded by his family after a brief illness at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital. He left his physical body on November 25, 2017 to join the love of his life Dolores (née Chrobel) Waters. Matt was born on November 27, 1926 in New York City, New York to Irish immigrant parents Margaret (née Balfe), County Wexford, and James Waters, County Sligo. Predeceased by his parents, wife Dolores (1995), brothers Patrick Waters and James Eugene (Gene) Waters, sisters-in-law Helen (née Tracy) Waters, Kay (née Balfe) Waters, Jeanne (née Chrobel) Culhane, son-in-law Steven Krank, as well as nephews from the Patrick Waters family. Matt is survived by his children; Mark, Mary (Eric) Skowlund, David (Jenny), Stephen, Martin (Vonnie), and Teresa Krank; grandsons Michael, Cameron, Ian, Alec, Schuylar, Jordan and Matthew. Also survived by sister-in-law Nancy (née Chrobel) Franciscy, brothers-in-law William Franciscy and William Culhane, dozens of nieces and nephews; and scores of friends. Matt served in the U.S. Navy between 1944 and 1946. Upon his return he graduated from Rhodes Preparatory, then attended at Quincy College, in Quincy, IL. He graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation Matt began his adult life in earnest, marrying Dolores on June 21, 1952 and embarking on a career at Household Finance Corp., returning to live in NYC, then accepted transfers to Palatine, IL, and Hales Corners, WI. In 1975 Matt accepted a Corporate Director of Credit position at National Car Rental and moved most of the family to Hopkins, MN. While at National Car Matt graduated from St. Mary's University in Winona, MN. with a Master's degree in Psychology and Counseling. Matt retired from business in 1989 but continued to stay active, starting an independent financial consulting business and buying and selling real estate. Matt was a member of the American Legion, Post 0320, the Hobby Acres Association, the Hopkins Historical Society, and the Hopkins Charter Commission. He was an active parishioner of both St. John's Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Church. He kept busy and stayed connected with many friends and neighbors during breakfast and lunch clubs. Matt was a committed friend of AA and lived the last 29+ years one day at a time. In honor of Matt's life services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church at the St. John's church campus, 6 Interlachen Rd, Hopkins, MN. A visitation hour will begin at 10 AM followed by mass at 11 AM. A light lunch will be offered in the church hall after mass. Interment will take place in Wood National Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI at a date yet to be determined. Arrangements are being handled by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel (washburn- mcreavy.com).
