McDonald Shirley A., 85, of Grinnell, Iowa, died on Friday, January 25, 2002, at the Mayflower Home Health Care Center in Grinnell. A celebration of the life of Shirley McDonald will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday May 15, 2002, in the Carman Center of the Mayflower Home in Grinnell. Following cremation, burial will be at the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton, Iowa. She was born on April 10, 1916, in Hampton, IA to Howard and Beatrice Oliver St. Clair. The family moved to Minneapolis, where she graduated from Roosevelt High School. She attended the University of Minnesota for three years. On June 16, 1939, she was married to Ralph McDonald in Minneapolis. The couple lived in the Minneapolis area, where she was associated with the University of Minnesota for thirty years. Following her retirement, she moved to Grinnell, IA. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Grinnell and Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She is survived by her husband, Ralph McDonald of Grinnell and one daughter, Merideth Settje of Pleasant Hill, CA; 2 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Lee McDonald; one grandson, Anthony Owen Bolewine; and one sister, Enid Dance.
