Pewters Dr. John T., age 89, of Mpls. A family doctor who practiced in the Twin Cities for 45 years. Survived by wife, Mary; daughters, Mary Micklitsch (Max), Cathy May (Wally); 5 grandchildren & 8 great-grandchildren. Dr. Pewters received his B.S. and Medical Degrees from the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of the Chi Psi and Nu Sigma Nu Fraternities. He completed medical residency at King County General Hospital in Seattle, WA. He doctored to soldiers and their families as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, discharged at the rank of Major in 1946. A long-time member of Abbott Hospital and Abbott Northwestern Hospital Medical staffs, Dr. Pewters was Chief of Staff for several years at Abbott Hospital. He spent six years on the Mpls Board of Public Welfare and was a member of American Medical Association, Minnesota Medical Association, and the Hennepin County Medical Society. He was a co-founder of the American Association of Family Practice, a charter member of the American Board of Family Practice. For years he attended National AMA meetings as a senior delegate, representing family practice doctors. He was also a member of the Minikahda Club. Private service and interment.
