Lloyd William Stover, DVM
Stover, Lloyd William, DVM Sept. 10, 1932-April 27, 2017 Age 84, raised in Iowa, he graduated from the Iowa State University School of Veterinary Medicine. His working life was dedicated to small animal veterinary practice. He owned the Excelsior Animal Hospital in Excelsior, Minn., after working at Park Pet Hospital and Edina Pet Hospital. He raised his family in Shorewood, Minn., where he was involved in the Minnetonka Power Squadron and the Excelsior Chamber of Commerce. He retired to Park Rapids, Minn., where he maintained a cabin on the eastern shore of Long Lake for the summers, and amassed a museum-quantity of tractors and antique tools. The winters of his retirement were spent in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., close to water, boats and friends. He gave his children and grandchildren many of his own passions and hobbies, passing down the ardent love he felt for so many aspects of life. A member of a folk band and a player of guitar and banjo, he gave them the sound of music. A storyteller and history buff, he gave them a sense of how they fit into the human timeline. An opinionated man, he gave them the value of fighting stubbornly and eloquently for what they believed. However, his greatest passion was his wife of nearly sixty years, Kristi Beal Stover. He is preceded in death by his wife Kristi; his sister Nancy Tague; and his parents Lloyd and Mildred. He is survived by his sister Marilee Rice; his brother-in-law John Beal; his children Mark Stover (Kate), Jeri Kayser (Doug) and Sandy Stover-Larsen (Ralph); his grandchildren Claire Tralle (Andrew), Anna Stover, Zach, Kiah and Alex Kayser, Sarah and Julia Larsen; his great-granddaughter Harriet Tralle; and his wonderful nieces and nephews. Suggested memorial donations to the Headwaters Animal Shelter in Park Rapids or the Iowa State University Foundation's General Scholarship fund. There will be a private service. Dad, we hope you are sitting by water with a dog at your feet.
