Hegarty, Brendan Age 71, of Eden Prairie, MN, passed away on June 5, 2014 from brain cancer. Survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Carla; children, Stephen (Jennifer Robey) Hegarty, Antony Hegarty, Sara Hegarty, Nick (Ella) Hegarty; grandchildren, Kieran, Seamus and Declan Hegarty; siblings, John Hegarty, Mary Hegarty (Eileen Lavery), Neil (Jacqui) Hegarty, Michael (Margaretha) Hegarty; stepson, Greg Siefkin; step-grandson, Luke Siefkin; other relatives and many friends. Brendan was born in 1942 in Kingston upon Thames in Surrey, England. Brendan received his undergraduate degree from University College London in Electrical Engineering. He received his PhD from the University of Sussex and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Ulster. Following his education, he went on to work for IBM in the UK, Holland and San Jose, CA. In 1988, he came to Minnesota to work for Control Data. In 1989, Seagate Technology acquired the division of Control Data that Brendan worked for and subsequently Brendan held the positions of Chief Technical Officer and Chief Operating Officer for Seagate until 1998. He also served on the board of MTS as a Director for 16 years. In 2001 and 2002, Brendan was the CEO of a nanotechnology start-up company in the West of England. Brendan loved to play golf and was a member of Bearpath Golf & Country Club for 18 years. Memorial service 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 17, Pax Christi Catholic Community, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie. A reception will follow at Bearpath Golf & Country Club from 2:00-4:00 PM, 18100 Bearpath Trail, Eden Prairie.
