Heglund, The Rev. Dr. Franklin Carl March 31, 1923 June 29, 2016 Preceded in death by parents Carl John and Alice Heglund, brothers Harold and Frederick, sister Ione Johnson and wife Lucille (Hoff) Heglund. Survived by wife Phyllis (Hoff) Heglund, son Steven, daughters Priscilla Brady and Elizabeth Reinbold, grandsons Jon-Carl Heglund, Timothy Brady, Erik Brady and granddaughters Rachel Birchbach and Rebecca Reinbold. Born in Red Wing, MN. After graduation from H.S. enrolled at St. Olaf College for two years, continuing his education in the Navy V-12 program at the U of Dubuque, IA and Mt. Airy Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. After the war he completed his Master of Divinity degree at Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary in Minneapolis. Ordained Nov. 10, 1946, he served parishes in Bloomington-Oxboro, MN, Menasha, WI, and Albuquerque, NM. In 1966 he received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Midland College. In 1970 he was elected Bishop of the Rocky Mountain Synod of the Lutheran Church in America and served in that capacity until retirement. Throughout his ministry he served on the boards of The Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago, Midland College and Bethany College, and the Executive Council of the national church, many community organizations, as well as being actively involved at the local and national level in carrying out the mission of the church. His deep faith in God's love and saving grace guided his life as he ministered to others with love and compassion. The memorial service was at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church, Plymouth, MN. Interment at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
