Wirtz, Paul John "G.H.O.F." Age 81 of Minnetonka, passed away February 16, 2014, after a courageous battle, post- surgery. Paul was born in Minneapolis on September 15, 1932. He attended Annunciation grade school, De La Salle High School and graduated from the University of St. Thomas in 1954, with a BA in Accounting. Paul served two years in the Air Force as a commissioned officer in accounting and then spent the next 30 years in Information Technology starting in 1957 as General Mills' first programmer. His final position was VP of the AC Nielson Information Center. The next eleven years were spent consulting and expense reduction, followed by teaching a "for- profit" expense reduction seminar to individuals, worldwide. Paul is the author and founder of Expense Reduction Analysts International, located then in 28 countries. Paul retired in 2002, but volunteered providing expense reduction assistance for non-profits. Paul was a loving, kind and fun individual who enjoyed people, travel, fishing, laughter, morning coffee with friends and making tasty all-day vegetable soup. Preceded in death by parents, Paul John Wirtz I and Frances Wirtz and two sisters, Franny Cummilen and Joyce Sewray. Survived by loving wife, Nancy, of 12 years; sons, Michael (Beverly ) Wirtz and Timothy Wirtz; daughter, Lisa (Jack) Holstrom; grandchildren, Kelsey and Garrett Holstrom and many cousins, nephews and devoted friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at The Church of St. Patrick, 6820 St. Patrick's Lane, Edina. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service at church. Private interment at Holy Name of Jesus Cemetery at a later date. Nancy and children wish to thank Drs. Melin, Bolin, Niccum and Tallo and the entire Intensive Care Unit staff for their expertise and compassionate care for Paul at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association MN Chapter or the Animal Humane Society of Golden Valley, MN.
