Beaudry, Alfreda Elsie Born April 15, 1925, died January 23, 2014. On January 23, 2014, Anoka entrepreneur Alfreda Beaudry passed away after a long battle with health complications. After graduating from The Alberta Business College with honors in 1943 she married Carl Beaudry on April 29, 1944. Carl had traveled from Anoka, Minnesota to work on the Alaska Highway. Soon after her marriage to Carl, they returned to Anoka and opened a family restaurant. Years later, hearing about a great franchise opportunity they launched their first Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in the basement of Carl’s Restaurant on the corner of 2nd and Main. And soon built 4 more Kentucky Fried Chicken stores around the surrounding communities. One store grew to be the be the largest volume store in the state for several years. Alfreda and Carl had at one time approximately 140 employees. Alfreda and Carl retired at a young age and lived most of the time at their Minnesota summer home on Mille Lacs Lakes and there winter home in Mesa, Arizona. They spent their time traveling and entertaining family and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Hilda May Austin; her daughter, Dianne Estelle Beaudry. Dianne died on January 8, 2011 of oral cancer, she was a fashion designer based in New York City. Survived her husband Carl of 68 years; her sons, Mike and Steven; grandsons, Chad and Ryan; granddaughter, Julie; great-grandsons, Austin, Shane and Brock; great-granddaughter, Tomi; sisters, Rosemarie and Betty; plus her many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends. Alfreda’s family will be announcing the date of a memorial in her honor this spring at her home town of Anoka.
