Sandra K. Legg
Legg, Sandra Kaye 61, of Robbinsdale entered God's glory on January 8, after a courageous four-year struggle with ovarian cancer. A woman of great faith and incomparable generosity, she blessed every life that she touched with her inexhaustible joy and beautiful, loving spirit. She chose teaching as her vocation, a perfect fit for her creativity, energy, artistic talent, and love of learning. In 2013 she concluded a 39-year career as a sixth-grade teacher at Palmer Lake Elementary in Brooklyn Park, teaching the same grade in the same classroom for her entire career. At Palmer Lake she inspired thousands of children with her infectious curiosity, great humor, and genuine dedication to each of her students. Born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on June 15, 1952, Sandy spent her early years in Mondovi, Wisconsin. At the age of seven she moved to Minnesota, where her family settled in Richfield. She attended Mt. Calvary Lutheran School through sixth grade, and then attended Richfield public schools, graduating from Richfield High School in 1970. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Concordia College in St. Paul, where she assumed leadership positions in campus social activities and athletics, particularly softball and volleyball. During her senior year she was chosen homecoming queen, but was much more pleased to be the first woman named Concordia's athlete of the year. She later earned a master's degree in education from the University of Minnesota. She filled her life and the lives of those she loved with art, music, sports, international travel, and a constant search for new discoveries. Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Everette Odegard. She is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Caitlin Sinnett and son-in-law, Will; daughter, Galya Legg; mother, Marlene Odegard; brothers, Larry (Susan), Timothy (Marta) and Lance (Elisa) Odegard; many adoring nieces and nephews; and countless dear friends and relatives.
